4.1 Cummaford and Long (2010) Engineering Design Principles: Validating Successful HCI Design Knowledge to Support its Re-use

Cummaford and Long use the HCI Knowledge Framework to acquire initial Engineering Design Principles as HCI knowledge, relating to electronic shopping. The development of such principles would be expected in the longer-term to support better guarantees of their successful application to any design problem within their scope.

4.2 Hill and Long (1996) A Preliminary Model of the Planning and Control of the Combined Response to Disaster

Hill and Long apply the EU Framework of Design Knowledge to develop a model of the combined response to disaster –Hill and Long apply the HCI Knowledge Framework to develop a model of the combined response to disaster. The model constitutes substantive HCI knowledge, acquired by HCI research – see especially PCMT EMCR Model.

4.3 Cummaford (2000) Validating Effective Design Knowledge for Re-Use: HCI Engineering Design Principles

Cummaford here applies the EU Framework of Design Knowledge to develop a conception of (HCI) Engineering Design Principles, within which systematically to relate design knowledge to performance.Cummaford applies the HCI Knowledge Framework to develop a framework for (HCI) Engineering Design Principles, within which systematically to relate design knowledge to performance. He argues that the specification of these relations supports validation of such HCI design knowledge. Design knowledge is illustrated throughout the paper.
